The GMP Band performed at the Stalybridge Carnival again this year, as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, an achievement its small team of dedicated volunteers are proud of. Carnival Day took place on Sunday 26th June 2016.
Every year it has donated money to local good causes, made up of the proceeds from the street collection on Carnival Day and surplus money it manages to generate. The event has grown during the past three years.
On Saturday, June 25, there were many events planned for Stalybridge Town Centre, including a shop window dressing competition for local traders, plus stalls and entertainment in Armentieres Square. There was live music, a classic vehicle display and free canal boat trips throughout the day.
Sunday, June 26, was the traditional Carnival Day, with the colourful parade through the town starting at 1pm. From 12 noon in Cheetham Park there wass a full funfair, trade and charity stalls plus live music and entertainment.
